Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
